Hi! New member here. This looks like a great place to get help from great people. I have a Stihl BG55 blower that I am trying to get running again, and may have created a problem that wasn’t there before. Let me give some background; I know and am learning the hard way about the springtime starting issues and plan to go get some SeaFoam or other all purpose cleaner/fuel stabilizer and use it all the time. I have also been told by my small engine guy to always use premium fuel..advice I have not taken yet..What do you think about the premium fuel advice? So, just this weekend I go to start my BG55 and..nothing… not even a burp. I pull down my Echo backpack blower and exactly the same thing..nothing. The next day I wanted to fire up my Stihl chainsaw and that machine that has never failed to start does exactly the same thing..not a good weekend for me and two cycle engines. Clearly there is a common problem, and it seems fuel would be it..hard to believe 3 spark plugs go bad at the same time. Then I stumble across a post by JasonB here helping another fellow with a weed whacker and he gives instructions on cleaning a carburetor. I disassembled the carb on the blower, it was not very gunky at all but I soaked it in vinegar anyway. I wasn’t sure what the inlet needle was but I think I do now, but it never came out to be on the safe side. I thought I did a great job of putting everything together but when I went to prime it for starting, the primer bulb would not pull up any fuel, even after a couple dozen pushes. I thought, 'you idiot, you put the diaphragm in backwards', so I flipped that and still nothing. Any ideas? The fuel lines are just about impossible to confuse, so I don’t think that is the problem. I plan to get a rebuild kit for it in any case. Is there an online source for Stihl stuff? Doesn’t seem readily available when I google it. Also, in general with these machines all having the same problem I guess I should re-mix some premium fuel and give that a shot huh? Also, all three machines were run periodically through the winter, especially the chainsaw and if anything the fuel I’m using currently is actually pretty fresh. Just all of the sudden the weather gets warm and “Bam” I get nailed with this junk. Thanks in advance for any help.
